If you complete your minimum training and time commitment – 27 days a year including the annual two-weeks training – you will qualify for a bounty. Unlike your pay, the bounty is a tax-free lump sum. 2 R IRISH are without doubt "THE" top TA Unit within the British Army. They are not just made up of people from Northern Ireland (Ulster) but from the whole of Ireland. 2 R IRISH currently have soldiers deployed on operations in support of the Regular Army. 2 R IRISH have also had soldiers deployed to IRAQ on OP TELIC.
2 R IRISH have had soldiers supporting the 1st Bn The Royal Irish Regiment on numerous occasions over the years including OP TELIC 1 in 2003.
2 R IRISH will make up something like 10% of ALL the mobilisied reserve forces in this mobilisation year 2007/2008, some of the soldiers mobilised are on their second OP HERRICK tour. This proves once again that the Irish soldier has always stepped upto the mark when called upon by the crown.
2 R IRISH now have a company "IMJIN COY" with 1 R IRISH in support of their tour in Afghanistan on OP HERRICK 8. The lads are now in Afganistan and by all reports having a good tour so far. They have made several changes to the normal daily routine since taking over from The Rifles. We wish them well on what no doubt will be a very interesting and demanding tour and look forward to their safe return toward the end of the year.
